In the midst of floods and the struggle for territory, Krahô people receive emergency aid from CESE

In 2023, the Krahô people, from the Takywará village in the municipality of Lagoa da Confusão in the state of Tocantins, received emergency aid from CESE through its Small Projects Programme. At the time, the community had been affected by flooding from the Formoso River, which caused the death of fish, pigs and other animals, and destroyed crops, affecting all their food security.

Krahô indigenous leaders allege that a local farmer set fire to a bridge connecting the towns of Lagoa da Confusão and Dueré, causing the Formoso River to flood. Environmental damage had several impacts, affecting around 76 people from the Takywará village, exposing the community to the risk of contamination due to the flooding
