Hopeful: rural and urban organizations discuss strategies of struggle and resistance

“There will be a time without time. A way without a way.” This statement about the changes that occur over the years came from Joana Benedito, the matriarch of the Mesquita Quilombo, who, at 98 years old, clearly and wisely expresses  the words she heard as a child. “I was a child, I didn’t understand, but I remembered what they told me.”

Dona Joana shared her memories and stories with an attentive group of 30 people, representatives from organizations, and social and grassroots movements from various states in the country, who participated in the “Hopeful Gathering of Peoples from the Countryside, Forests, Waters, and Cities,” organized by CESE and held in Brasília (DF) between 8 and 6 May.”
